"Science is like a religion. It is very egoistic to find all the things out for yourself. You should not ask so many questions. You have to take some things on faith. My guide, who is a distinguished researcher, has this particular scientific opinion and so do I. If you want to believe in it, then do it otherwise go to hell."
My answer (which I can't tell them on their face just because they will get pissed off even more):
In short, You don't know what science is. You can't give me this bullshit if all I wanted was just the proof(which is available in books, I found out later) of what you were putting in front of me.
The most ridiculous thing is that being a scientist/researcher you are telling me not to ask "so many" questions. The lame excuse you gave was that I didn't have enough background on linear algebra to understand your point.
Speaking of religion, I don't think you know what that is either. If someone says: there's a God watching all of us, omnipresent, omnipotent and other such omni- stuff; and you take it on faith then I don't feel that is going to do any good to you. Only if you question the existence of God, can you become closer to God (my personal opinion).
I don't know which incidences in your life made jalebi(indian sweet - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e8/Jalebi_2.jpg ) out of your thought process. You say that don't ask me questions because even I may not be able to answer all of them. You are afraid of being confused. Your knowledge has come to a stand still. You say that I come across as egoistic because I want to verify everything for myself. I think I am just following the gyan-maarg(Gita reference) for salvation. Well, I don't know about life as it manifests itself after so many years of revolving around the sun. Maybe it makes your thoughts jalebi-like. But I don't give a damn about it. I would follow my instincts and still look at things from a scientific perspective and I would pursue knowledge and I would ask all the questions(of course not to you) I have.
Conclusion has to be free from any hard feelings so I would say I still respect you for your knowledge and the nectar of knowledge you have given to me. (But I don't buy that jalebi-ized nonsense of yours seriously.)
sincerely
